Canal Society of New Jersey

The CSNJ is a non-profit organization formed in 1969 to foster the study of the history of New Jersey's two towpath canals, preserve and restore canal remains and artifacts, educate the public in the canals' histories and provide enjoyment to its members by visiting canals and other historic sites.

D&R Canal Watch

Mission: To engage the public in the protection of the environment and preservation of the heritage of the D&R Canal.
The Delaware & Raritan Canal and its towpath form a v-shaped linear park that crosses the center of New Jersey, providing recreation, a respite from the tumult of the state's busy centers, a history lesson in the development of New Jersey, and drinking water for the million people who live near this 66-mile greenway in the heart of the nation's most densely populated states.

East West Greenway

The East Coast Greenway is a walking and biking route stretching 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida, connecting our nation’s most populated corridor. The East Coast Greenway is designed to transform the 15 states and 450 communities it connects through active and healthy lifestyles, sustainable transportation, community engagement, climate resilience, and tourism. The Greenway offers a safe place for bicyclists, walkers, and runners — of all ages and abilities — to commute, exercise, and visit new destinations.

The nearly 100 miles of Greenway in New Jersey passes through bustling urban areas — Trenton, New Brunswick, Newark, and Jersey City — as well as suburban settings and quiet rural landscapes. The route includes 36 miles of the much enjoyed D&R Canal Towpath.

Franklin Inn - Van Liew Homestead Association

The Franklin Inn-Van Liew Homestead in the East Millstone district of Franklin Township tells the story of the history the township from the earliest Dutch settlers, through the American Revolution, to the Canal era and the emergence of commerce, to its function as a thriving place of business in the 20th century. A friends group, the Franklin Inn-Van Liew Homestead Association, formed to secure the future of their namesake. The group is working with Franklin Township, the property owners, and NJ DEP to clarify next steps and options involved in contamination testing, remediation, and completion of the necessary repairs. Preservation New Jersey supports this volunteer effort and urges the interested parties and others to mobilize together to save this significant remnant of early Somerset County.

Kingston Greenways Association

Kingston Greenways Association aims to establish a permanent green belt around the village of Kingston consisting of natural environments, recreational park land, agricultural and horticultural land, wetlands, streams and ponds, and sites of historical interest. The Association further aims to preserve and create connections of green among and beyond these for walking, jogging, bicycling and horseback riding. The Association aims also to promote understanding of our local region through study and education, and to provide oversight and advocacy for open space in the Kingston area. We will work in partnership with other regional, state and national groups in pursuit of open space preservation and awareness.

Kingston Historical Society

Activities of the KHS include an annual meeting at which we have a speaker, and a Holiday Open House and Tree lighting at the Locktender's House the first Sunday in December. The Society also advocates for the preservation of Kingston's history and historic character.

League of Historical Societies of New Jersey

The League of Historical Societies of New Jersey, founded in 1966, is composed of over 220 organizations that represent over 45,000 individual members. While most of the organizations in the League are local historical societies, it also includes statewide societies and related institutions, county agencies, museums, libraries and archival groups, historic preservation agencies, and a variety of other organizations devoted to and interested in New Jersey history.

The members of the League share information and ideas about their activities and their problems, and about the work of other groups engaged in saving New Jersey history, county by county, and town by town. They conduct cooperative activities to advance preservation and knowledge of the history of New Jersey.

New Jersey Sierra Club

In 1892 John Muir lobbied and started the movement to preserve our natural lands, (wild nature, and developed) for posterity and public enjoyment. Through education, patience and compromise we hope to keep our planet healthy. We often partner with other environmental groups on these issues and lobby our representatives local, state and national; especially on diversion of preserved and open space land to commercial. Pipelines and development threaten our water and air. These dangers signify to organizations like the Sierra Club that we need to organize for activism.

The Central New Jersey Group is working on local environmental issues to preserve open space, promote effective planning, control invasive species, protect wetlands and build trails. We actively oppose the Transco pipeline in Princeton/Montgomery, natural gas pipelines in New Jersey, fracking and fracking waste disposal in New Jersey.
